Ozine Fest 2015 (Undertale Trash Unite)

So me and my friends had a little trip to SM Megamall (Manila) once again for the Ozine Fest 2015. This time, I was on a proper cosplay as Frisk (last year I was supposed to go as Ib but I had a few problems). And once again, I got to meet and spend a lot of time with Jake Yuon and Rain, my two buddies from Q.C. Here are some photos from the event.

"Rom-Com Me": My Bebe Love #KiligPaMore Movie Review (MMFF 2015)

Since me and my family has this yearly MMFF tradition, in this year's Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF 2015) we obviously got to see My Bebe Love #KiligPaMore on the first screen date, December 25, 2015 (obviously not the premiere night because I'm not rich, haha). This is also AlDub's first ever movie debut. As with my other MMFF movie reviews, here's my rundown on the movie.

20+ Intentional and Unintentional References in Undertale

Hailed by most gamers and fans as the "Game of the Year" for 2015, Undertale is not like your average RPG pixel game. It breaks the fourth wall like Re:Kinder and Enigma, has 8bit graphics and music like Yume Nikki, and has a battle system similar to Touhou / bullet hell games. Because I'm a huge multifandom nerd, here are 20+ interesting references, intentional and unintentional, within the game.

If you lived in the 90s and/or have been browsing around in the 2000s for weird anime, you will probably know Serial Experiments Lain and its existentialism, reality and cyber-punk themes. Get ready to connect once again into the Wired as I review 15 concepts and lessons from this anime explained.

GIRL ME!ME!ME! Sequel/Prequel Review: From a Girl's Perspective

Okay, so I just recently saw the music video of "GIRL", from Studio Khara, Japan Animator Expo, Hideya Kojima x DAOKO, the same guys and gals who brought you "ME!ME!ME!". It's kind of connected to the original video, but essentially different because it's the "girl" version of the said video. Here's my analysis of the said music video.

10+ Intentional and Unintentional References in Enigma

Enigma: An Illusion Named Family is a Korean indie RPG horror game by AV Media, and I'm so glad to be in this small fandom. It's a lot similar to The Crooked Man though not really a free game, and there are more gameplay aspects and a really flipped plot. Despite that, here are some cultural references (movies, anime, shows, etc.) that I've noticed from this game. Spoiler alert: stuff about the ending could be scattered here so read at your own risk:

Kinda Funny, Kinda Sad: Inside Out (Movie Review)

A lot of us are always like "cheer up" when someone is crying or sad. Little did we know that sometimes, sadness and other emotions play an important role in our lives equal to happiness. This is what the Pixar movie "Inside Out" is all about. I have a lot to say about the movie since I've been in an equal scenario most of the time.

Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) Live Action Movie: Part 1 Review

We've been waiting for this live action movie adaptation of Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan) for about a year since it was first announced, and now we finally get what we want. The AoT/SnK movie shows up on SM Cinemas (luckily, including SM City Lucena at our province) so we can get a taste of the bloody Titan-slaying action.

Philippines Losing the 2019 FIBA Hosting Bid: Good or Bad?

I know this sounds like one of my old posts about too much Pinoy Pride being overrated and bad for us, but with the recent proposal of hosting the 2019 FIBA world cup, the Philippines losing to China, the same country that's taken over our country by means of the business sector and the same ones claiming a small portion of our territories (because in reality, we are particularly called by other countries "nothing but house maids"), I'm here to explain that losing the FIBA bid isn't all that bad if you look at it another way.

The #AlDub Story in a Nutshell (Updated as Needed)

So in case you missed my last blog post about Yaya Dub and you don't watch GMA-7 or you're not from the Philippines, there's a new hype going on around - it's the on-screen RPF (real person fiction) love team / pairing of Alden Richards and Yaya Dub (Maine Mendoza), also known as the AlDub (or sometimes DubDen) shipping. Here's a rundown of how it all started and what happens next in this first of it's kind - the very first Pinoy Noontime Comedy-Infused Live Teleserye "Kalye Serye" on national television.

The Success Story of Yaya Dub

Dubsmash isn't my thing basically because I'm a very camera-shy person. I can perform on live concerts and on stage but not in front of the camera.

But here's what I have to say about Maine Mendoza a.k.a. Yaya Dub or Queen of Dubsmash Philippines, since like I said, Dubsmash is not my thing and I think she deserves some praise (I'm only bitterly insecure towards people who can do talents that I can also do myself, like making music).

Food and Candy Poisoning in the Philippines 2015: Should You Be Alarmed?

Recently, there has been a lot of food and candy poisoning in the Philippines this 2015, from June to July. This is for the Durian Candy, Mangosteen Candy, Macapuno Candy (and allegedly Mango Candy too), as well as the Plastic Rice, Plastic Bihon, Fake Salt, etc. Should you be alarmed? Here are my thoughts, speculations, theories and opinions:

List of Anime and Shows Similar to Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin)

With the phenomenal success of Japanese manga turned anime Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin, Advancement of the Giants), there came along many other anime and shows that are following the dystopian, post-apocalyptic plot formula of AoT/SnK. Because of that, I have compiled a List of Anime and Shows Similar to Attack on Titan (Shingeki no Kyojin) that I have watched. This also includes older shows that have a coincidentally similar plot.

Stuff that Came in the Mail this Past Month!

It's been my life-long dream to order stuff online (although I apparently already did with Akiko Shikata albums like Turaida and Laylania DVD), these stuff are different - they're from two of my biggest fandoms: Don't Hug Me I'm Scared and Yu-Gi-Oh!

Stuff that came in the mail this past month included the following:

Pluto Flyby 2015: Astronomy has Reached "New Horizons"

Have you heard the latest news on the Pluto Flyby this July 14, 2015? Looks like the spacecraft New Horizons has finally reached its destination, the dwarf planet Pluto!

This is going to be really exciting not only because I'm totally interested with astronomy and extra-terrestrial stuff, but also because we've never seen Pluto this up-close before...

Alamat: Philippine Folk Tales into Modern Pinoy Animation

Today, I chanced upon yet another very awesome GMA-7 series (seriously, GMA has awesome stuff when it comes to unique content, a.k.a. My Husband's Lover). Titled "Alamat", it's a modern retelling of Pinoy folk tales into crafty and colorful original Filipino animation. Here's my review of the first episode, titled "Alamat ng Bayabas" (Legend of the Guava Fruit).

The Rise and Fall of Magnifico: Jiro Manio's Story

Jiro Manio in Magnifico (left) and in NAIA (right).

If you haven't heard yet on the news, the boy better known for his Santino-esque role in the hit 90s Filipino film, "Magnifico", Jiro Katakura a.k.a. Jiro Manio, was found randomly roaming around the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) around June 30, 2015.

A lot of fans' and former fans' hearts were torn to pieces to see the seemingly-innocent child actor who lived his life of prestigious Filipino cinema roles and even took the Gawad Urian award, is now a lost sheep trying to find his way back home.

Slenderman or Operator: Always Watching: A Marble Hornets Story 2015 Movie Review

Poster for "Always Watching: A Marble Hornets Story" a.k.a. Slenderman / Operator Move 2015.

MarbleHornets is an ARG that I am not really that familiar of, but I've known about the Creepypasta / Mythos of Slenderman and the poster for the 2015 indie horror film, Always Watching: A Marble Hornets Story, got me intrigued.

Silhouette Mirage: Japanese / English Differences

Silhouette Mirage is a 90s side-scrolling 2D game that involves very challenging gameplay, and I happened to be one of those who played this during the years I still had my PSX / Playstation One. I played the Working Designs English translation of the game, but I also got curious of the Sega Saturn and the Japanese PSX version, so I checked out those too.

Silhouette Mirage English version featuring Shyna and Zohar Metatron encountering Dynamis. Holy titanic tuna indeed!

I didn't play the SS version but I saw some gameplays on YouTube. However, I did play the Japanese PSX version just to test out the differences. Here are some of the notable things I found.

30 Stereotypical Pinoy Teleserye Elements

Most Filipinos love watching soap operas, colloquially "Teleseryes" on TV. The only bad thing nowadays is that their stories and elements get all too stereotypical and predictable, losing art for money (but then again, mainstream is usually the non-artistic side of the industry but oh well).

With that said, here are 30 Stereotypical Pinoy Teleserye Elements that you'd most likely encounter in any Fililipno soap opera.

DIY Mike the Microphone (Ask DHMIS Audio OC)

So I got interested with the audio works of the talented Ask DHMIS Audio from Tumblr and because his OC, Mike the Microphone, looks pretty cool, I've also decided to a DIY Mike the Microphone, similar to my Tony/Sketchbook, Shrignold, Harry/Manny/Robin, Colin/Gilbert and Oats/Roy/Malcolm.

Here's the step by step process:

Wowowin: Willie Revillame's Exclusive TV Comeback

Perhaps all of us have been too familiar with the phrase "bigyan ng jacket!" Well perhaps, we're going to hear that phrase on TV again. With the exclusive television comeback of Willie Revillame in his GMA-7 Sunday variety game show, Wowowin, here's what I think of the first aired episode.

Pacquiao vs. Mayweather 2015: Per Round Analysis

So this is going to be a sort-of live post on the Battle for Greatness: Pacquiao vs. Mayweather 2015 fight this May 2, 2015 (May 3 in our country, the Philippines). I'll be analyzing (though I'm not really a sports analyst) or at least give my round-per-round opinion of the action as it happens. Let's see which of Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather takes home the bacon (or emerald-gold belt, for that matter).

Below are the live updates on the Pacquiao vs. Mayweather fight:

One Last Ride: Fast and Furious 7 Review

Because my little bro is a total automobile enthusiast, he would not miss the movie Fast and Furious 7 on the cinema, where action films are better than when you watch at home. This is Paul Walker's "one last ride" before he unfortunately passed away from an accident. Here's what I have to say about the movie:

My little bro is so proud of his achievement this summer. :)

Don't Hug Me I'm Scared 4: Digital Dancing!! (Review)

Finally, the moment we have been waiting for - an update to DHMIS (Don't Hug Me I'm Scared) and this is Don't Hug Me I'm Sacred 4! The setting is in table where the three puppets are playing a little quiz game.

As this is Harry / Red Guy's episode (if you follow my DHMIS 3 review) this focuses mostly on him, as he raises the question, "What's the biggest thing in the world?" Here's my review.

Minecraft Miniatures! (includes Real Life Minecraft Photoshoot)

Some weeks ago, I bought these little guys from a store in Pacific Mall, Lucena City! They're Minecraft miniature figures for Php 180! I honestly can't believe Minecraft is already getting mainstream here in the Philippines (or so I think).

Last post, I mentioned that I just started playing Minecraft. I saw these guys and I instantly bought them!

Minecraft Invasion!

If you've been following me on social media lately (tumblr and Twitter to be exact), I've actually just started playing Minecraft, which is a survival / recreational PC game (has a Pocked Edition for mobile and an Xbox 360 version) where you build houses, "craft" things to survive, make food, fight monsters (mobs), etc.

I know it's a very old game, but I wasn't interested with it back then, thinking that it's a super hard online game (I don't really play Warcraft, DoTA, FarmVille, Clash of Clans and the like, and I didn't even play stuff like Ragnarok, Skyrim or League of Legends). But because of a recommendation in my job, I've gotten interested in the game and, just wow. Below are my game screenshots:

The Blue and White Dress: Why Gold and White?

I clearly don't understand how people just suddenly become too concerned about a simple Tumblr post of a dress. I'm pretty sure this is more solvable than "the chicken or the egg" philosophy, but I just...don't understand anymore.

How can people see a blue and white dress as gold and white? Because of the lighting? Pfft. Let me explain what I can decipher from the photo.

"Where do Broken Hearts Go?" That Thing Called Tadhana (Movie Review)

It's not everyday that an indie film goes mainstream. The last one that I watched was Alagwa, and it was beautiful, of course. And as you may know, I absolutely suck at watching romantic films, so I had my doubts on this film. But seeing Angelica Panganiban's scene where she cries a lot on John Lloyd films, well, I think this might not be a romantic film at all.

"That Thing Called Tadhana" (That Thing Called Destiny) is a CinemaOne Originals independent film entry by Antoinette Jadaone. I guess you could say I watched this film out of curiosity as to why a lot of people loved it, and also because of my "personal issues" and that the film somehow will be able to match my current tadhana (fate) right now. Here's my movie review.

Valentine's Special: 10 Saddest Love and Friendship Stories

Throughout my life, I've read and watched countless romantic stories, although you know very well that I dislike romance. But there are some that actually stand out, and focus not on the romantic love, but the bond of friendship that binds the love. Since it's Valentines's Day soon, here are 10 saddest love and friendship stories from all sorts of media (specifically, my top 10 greatest tragic OTPs ever), in no particular order:

Things to Learn from Pope Francis' Philippine Visit

Let's face it: whether you are a Catholic or belonging to another religion or have no religious beliefs at all, Pope Francis is one big deal and game changer in the world today. In his recent visit to the Philippines, not only has he inspired us, he has also a lot of lessons in store that we should reflect upon. And mind you, these lessons are not necessarily always religion-wise but are more people-oriented and society-oriented in general.

Why Pope Francis is Unique

Something I drew for Pope Francis.

Known for breaking a lot of traditional Catholic stuff, Pope Francis is truly remarkable (in my honest opinion as a Christian), especially now that he's coming to the Philippines this January 15, 2015, Thursday (the last Pope we had was Saint Pope John Paul II). Here are some facts why he somewhat stands out from the rest:

Je Suis Charlie: Terrorism or Racism?

So, in case you didn't know yet, some Islamic extremist group attacked and murdered some cartoonists of the Charlie Hebdo (Charlie Weekly) French publication in Paris. (Unfortunately, it happened on January 7, 2015, which is my little bro's birthday, sadly). There had been a lot of right-and-left opinions, such as generalizing Muslims as terrorists (yet again) when extremist groups are actually different from them, and people calling the publication "racist", especially non-French people. Here's the stuff I could conclude from the incident.

New Year 2015 Goals

Since it's the new year, all of us may have New Year's resolutions or goals. I don't really like writing one myself, since I know that I won't be able to completely fulfill them in the end. But here's what I'd like to see and do on 2015:

The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin: MMFF 2014 Film Review

While I don't always watch movies, it's family tradition to at least pick one good Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry for the holidays. Though we didn't make it earlier this year due to busy schedules, we watched one. Last year, we pinned on Vic Sotto and Ryzza Mae Dizon, but this year 2014, Vice Ganda's "The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin", a sequel to his old movie.
