Pinoy Films at its Finest...or not. (MMFF 2012 Analysis)

Year after year, movies are just threads that all go through the same needle. Even society is part of those threads. I'm not saying merely negative or positive about the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) in its span of so many years; this is just a quick analysis of what I think is different (or the same) this year.

First of all, we know very well that politics, showbiz, business and sometimes religion all coincide with similar rules, whether for good or for bad. You can't live in a perfect world when you are in reality - people tend to only favor those who favor them. It's called 'give and take' and you can see it everywhere. People nowadays are more daring and open-minded, and not to mention, more into breaking rules, but not necessarily all people.

The City above the Moon [Review Time]

There are four things I'm going to review today.

If you like she / shemusic / Lain Trzaska, then you are sure to love his ally, who had already been the house DJ in the recent MTV EMA awards. Hugo Pierre Leclercq, a.k.a. Madeon, is a French DJ under the influence of Daft Punk and has quite similar sounds to she, except he's more of a house producer (and a close buddy of his, actually).

Reply Letter to the Younger Kazaki.

Dear my past self,

I received your letter and read it. Thank you so much for writing to me; it means a lot for me! Okay, one by one, I will answer all of your questions.

First of all, yes, the world today is not how it seems. People are getting even more violent because that too, is a part of human advancement. It means that we are taking a step forward both in good and bad deeds. Secondly, you're not a kid - you're matured well for me than most people I know today. Even if you do act childish, I think that maturity is how you deal with people and not what you believe in. It's how you respect and forgive others despite how many times they have mistreated you. And I think you are a good example of that.

Everyone IZALAYER. (AMALAYER commentary)

First of all, I have nothing against OA / conyo-English-spekaing women, unless they really go bitching behind my back (and in my front too).

In case you haven't heard of it yet, AMALAYER is a simple story of verbal abuse in the LRT stations of Manila, Philippines. I need not hear or read further of this because it's a cliche of our daily life - with the exception of being pushed by the manipulatively overreacting social media hoodlums and junkies.

I have no idea if this woman, Paula Jamie Salvosa, is actually following the footsteps of Miriam Defensor Santiago or Claudine Baretto (no offense, as Baretto's case is quite different). But I think that in such a scene, anyone would react the same way - minus the OA conyo cursing, that is.

Letter from the Younger Kazaki.

Dear my future self,

How are you doing? I wanted to write you this letter because...I wanted to tell you how I feel about the world that you are in today. It's nothing like my world, right? I mean, look everywhere!! So many people only prioritize money and songs are starting to get really annoying, eh?

I know that it was an obligation for you to just leave me behind, because well...who needs a kid anyway? Kids can't survive the world. Crybabies can't live amongst humans, right? I'm weak, and therefore I should die, right?

Okay, enough with the drama...heheheh. Let me tell you some of my thoughts about today, and about you. :)

Singer Review: Jessica Sanchez and KZ Tandingan

I know, I know. It's not my style and forte to review diva-pop female singers, but today I feel like doing it anyway. Also, I'm not a singer, but I can review a couple of singing-related stuff, so here goes.

First off: Jessica Sanchez.

I am aware that most of us feel ridiculously annoyed with the OA social media reaction over this half-Pinay American Idol runner up, but you know what they say: you can't criticize someone unless you make a research about him/her. So here's my review:

People (and things) you shouldn't criticize, part 3!

I'm doing a part 3! I can't believe how mainstream-hipster I am! O:
And once again, all of these are OPINIONS! Read at your own risk; everyone of us has their own stand anyway. Just an eye-opener. :)

1. Sen. Tito Sotto
I bet you have already heard this in my previous entries. Plagiarism is done today by millions of people - it's just that the senator wasn't that lucky that he was in the public eye.

Anonymous: Evolution from Pastime to Protest

I'm here to do a review of the recent 2012 movie, "We Are Legion: The Story of Hacktivists", as well as give my opinions and observations of the widespread Internet 'legion' known as Anonymous.

Ever since the Cyber Crime / Online Libel had been implemented in the Philippines, it was only then that Anonymous was brought up to mainstream media. And the same thing goes for every government around the world that tried to 'take away the internet' through various forms of censorship, leaving freedom of speech only for the rich and famous.

Difference Between Being Professional and Being Personal.

Before anything else, I am forewarning you that this is not any form of libelous article nor it is a complimentary article. It was made entirely for being an analytic opinion only.

I am sure that many of the folks swarming around the internet are aware of Sen. Tito Sotto's plagiarism act, where he translated an American President's speech into Tagalog / Filipino and delivered it during a hearing of the RH Bill. Many netizens weren't happy, and as of course, grammar Nazi's and the like. And in fact, he had more internet memes than Lito Lapid or Mayor Alfredo Lim combined. This is really...creeping me out.

My point is: what is wrong with translating?

Of Action Heroes and Paintings.

Well, in this entry, I'm gonna share with you two stuff that I've taken interest in today.

The first one is about the movie Expendables 2: Back from War.

Me and my bf got a chance to see it on the movies a few days ago. And did you know why we wanted to see it (aside from the fact that we both saw the first movie)? It's because of this guy:

Chuck Norris from a scene in Expendables 2: Back from War.
Chuck Norris, as we all know, is a "superhuman" in the internet, when it comes to memes and all of that stuff, he is compared to an all-invincible, indestructible Nokia mobile phone from the early 2000's. And what I believe, is that they've used this "Chuck Norris Phenomenon" to be a marketing strategy and added spice to the movie. And boy, did it work! The whole thing was not just action, but also comedy! We both laughed so hard that day. So...let's prepare for some Expendables 2 CN memes after a few days!

Longplayer, Dubstep, Autotune, etc.

Why do you think I am posting this?

The above mentioned things have always been criticized due to their being "unnatural" forms of music. But my opinion is that, they are still music, no matter how much technology you put into them. Music doesn't depend on simplicity or complexity; it depends on how much heart or emotion the creator has put into it.

I will further elaborate this.

PNoy's 3rd SONA: Did He Improve?

Okay, first of all, I am no expert in political stuff nor am I that good in making speeches. But I do know how to organize a story well, so here are my thoughts off President Benigno Aquino III's SONA for the year 2012.

Home Along the Nostalgia.

People (and things) you shouldn't criticize. Part II

People are going to kill me for this. COME AT ME BRO :<

1. Myrtle Abigail Sarrosa

Cosplayers and anime fans are pretty much the same as other geeks in different fields. They are also no different from artists of different genres. They have their own style and world. Perhaps people are only criticizing her because of her personality, but that is NOT how you judge art. Cosplaying is art too, you know.

If you're an anime/otaku fan and you hate her - shame on you. You are downing your own kind.

2. Timothy Bradley

Okay I know it's obvious that the judges were *a bit* bias, but get over it. Are we not tired of seeing Pacquiao win battle after battle? Are we not bored enough? C'mon, you know how it feels hearing a mainstream K-pop or Western song over and over again! It's the same thing!

Maybe we have too much pride on our own hero that we don't care about other nationalities anymore?

Atomic Rearrangement Theories?

So okay...I'll be posting a slightly scientific entry today.

Basically, most of us already probably know (from our science class) that everything in this world is made up of atoms, and these atoms can still be broken down into further subatomic particles. In short, we are not really a whole object but a combination of many small objects.

Touchphones and Brofists!

You guessed it right: I (finally) have my first WiFi enabled Smartphone.

My new Samsung Galaxy Mini S5570.
Sorry for the bad quality though; I took this with my PC camera. Anyways, I managed to buy it from my neighborhood cousins who are in the buy and sell business. At first I didn't know how to work around Android phones, but as time went by (1 week), I managed to cope with it. And look - Akiko Shikata is on my background image! Yay! :D

Japanese Translation (Found in Drafts) I've deciede to post my old Japanese translation of this cool song. :)

All it Takes for your Dreams to Come True
Yume ga kanau subete no kakaru

Artist: A Skylit Drive

Fire rages in me
Boku no naka kasai ga gekido suru
Never want to see the roses on your door
Kesshite kimi no doa ni bara mitakunai

People connected to me right now (formerly called Wanted List)

Inspired by my old posts, I've decided to make a new "safer" post similar to one of them.
Again, I do not own these people:

Alphabetically arranged:
  1. Akiko Shikata
  2. Chitra Santy
  3. Felix Kjellberg
  4. Frederick Siao
  5. Gerard Way
  6. Haley Bishop
  7. Izia Higelin
  8. Kitsi

Avengers Time!

I'm back from a beautiful adventure, guys!

Me and my boyfriend had a trip to Festival Mall, Alabang yesterday. And you know what we came for?

Marvel's Avengers.
That's right - we're catching the very last showing of this movie, since it's not showing on SM City Lucena anymore. But first...let me tell you why I've suddenly taken an interest in a mainstream film, which I am not normally doing in my life in the past.

SM City San Pablo

If only I had a WiFi/Smartphone/Android phone to make this post in the exact location. :<

Some people think it's a crappy mall with almost no difference from SM City Lucena. We went there to prove their claims.

Amidst the Marvel and Mythical Detective theories (if you know what I mean) and Creepypasta fandom, I think it's time for boredom to go to sleep. SM City San Pablo was, of course, one of the "newer" SM designs, and that means, futuristic orange layouts, unlike the one in Lucena.

People You Shouldn't Hate or Criticize

1. Skrillex

Dubstep is a deep, complex, and out of this world genre. It's not like someone could just simply sequence synth loops and repeat them over and over again - that would be techno, not dubstep. This genre requires medium to professional skill in music production; you need knowledge on automation, LFO, cutoff frequencies, etc. For my personal experience, it took me about 30 minutes just to make a 16-bar dubstep loop.

Dear everyone,

My wings are tainted in demise and absolute silence. I sit here in the meadows of my fate, trying to replicate the once forbidden memories and wishes when the sun was still above the sky. I am writing this to you to express how I feel.

Funny how the striking iron of reality bends its way towards my throat, as I grasp for nothing but nothingness. You, whom I have desired to meet; I am terribly sorry. I am powerless; I am lazy; women are nothing. So I sit here in my mushroom abyss, dreaming of the day I give these fruits of my hard work for you. I am better than her! I deserve to be noticed! Why do you not see me? Why can't any of you see me?

Tanduay First Five: Lucena

Let me tell you my experience from the said event on the title.

I was extremely hungry but due to the show already starting, I had no other choice but to go in with my friends. The security was extremely tight, but it was worth it, I guess.
